My name is Elizabeth Alley, and I am twenty-three years old. In April of 2001, I was in an automobile accident which left me a C-5-6 quadriplegic. Over the past three years I have witnessed and received many blessings of different types. The one that I’m most proud of, besides being alive, is receiving the title of Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2004.

After my accident I moved back in with my family; which consists of two younger sisters, and a mom and dad. I have a bulldog named Jorja that is my pride and joy. During my free time I enjoy going out to eat, shopping, hanging out with friends, and meeting new people. I guess you could say that my hobby is meeting new people. Pretty much everywhere that I go,
I don’t know a stranger, that’s why being Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee has been so great, it gives me a great excuse to talk to just about everyone.

I also enjoy public speaking and peer support. During the school year I go to high schools and talk about the effects of drinking and driving. After I’m done, I am on cloud nine. The feeling of knowing that maybe one teen will stop and think BEFORE they drink is indescribable. I also speak to different groups about disability awareness. Again, the feeling that I get what I’m done, is fantastic.

My major platform as Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee has been to educate the public of the organization itself. I think it’s such a shame that the people don’t even know that the title exists. In my opinion, the public would be very interested in learning about the many different women presenting their inspirational stories and goals. My goal at next year’s state ceremony is to not only have the contestants’ families in the audience, but a group of spectators as well.
