Ami Dark, from Toledo, Iowa, is 32 years old, mother of two, with a spinal cord injury. Ami had a staph infection on her spine that paralyzed her from the chest down. Doctors felt she would walk again, but after 10 years, the feeling has not returned.
Amy is a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa. And she would like to increase awareness and hopefully impact some positive changes.
|
|
As Ms. Wheelchair Iowa, Ami plans on visiting schools and encourage children to accept themselves and to realize their actions affect other people. She also wants to visit legislators to lobby for people with disabilities, especially when it comes to medical expenses.
ABILITY TO TEACH -- Ami dreamed of being a teacher, now she will use her title as Ms. Wheelchair Iowa to do just that - teach others about what it is like to have a disability.
She will do a great job representing Iowa in Richmond.
