Gina Hackel: Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin 2004

Gina Hackel uses a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury in 1988.

Gina relates as follows:

I have just completed certification as a Theatre teacher and will pursue ESL certification as well. I credit my success and dedication to her family and friends. I have been married for 10 years and has two sons. My husband is an inspiration and makes all of my endeavors possible. There are many to thank for support and encouragement to reach my goals and to strive for new opportunities.

I am a board member of YASA, Youth Adaptive Sports Association in Green Bay, Wisconsin. YASA is for disabled youth to participate in sports. I am also a member of Challenge the Outdoors, Helping Paws Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter, and the Wildlife Federation.

It is my goal to promote the awareness about disability issues through education and involvement. It is important to connect the dots for the disabled and to find out what is available to participate in events, organizations, and services. My hope is to provide opportunities to the disabled and if I can change the life of just one individual, it is worth the time and energy. The possibilities are endless!
