| Since 1996 the Ms. Wheelchair Iowa Program has offered an
opportunity for women in wheelchairs to publicize their achievements, educate, and
advocate for others with disabilities. The program is not a beauty pageant. It is a
competition helping women to see their potential, share their accomplishments, and
challenge personal growth. The woman selected Ms. Wheelchair Iowa is a spokesperson, able to
communicate to those with and without disabilities. She uses her title to open doors and
speak to those who may not normally listen.
