Ms. Wheelchair Arizona 2006

Hi I'm Wendy and proud to be Ms. Wheelchair Arizona, which gives me the opportunity to talk to people about one of my passions: to have the non-disabled community see all of the ABILITIES in one's disability.

My other passions include having raised my two children as a single parent to be good caring decent human beings, operating D.A.W.N . - a unique introduction service for people with disabilities, training my little dog Oreo to be a Handi-Dog and promoting disability awareness for children.

More mundane interests include listening to my oldies music, so called chick flicks and inspirational movies, reading human interest stories, and eating chocolate and hot fudge Sundaes!

I was raised in New York where I obtained my AA degree in Liberal Arts, my BA degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy, and my MA degree in Speech Pathology.

My professional work in these areas took place in New York, Mexico, and Tucson, Arizona, where
I' ve spent most of my adult life.

In addition to Wendy's general interests, read more about what her title as Ms. Wheelchair Arizona means to her.

What being Ms. Wheelchair Arizona 2006 means to me

I would like to take this opportunity to express to you what my title means to me. Being Ms. Wheelchair Arizona 2006 provides me with an opportunity for the public to listen to my heartfelt visions, as they see a positive, vibrant woman with strong desires to break down the walls of social and attitudinal barriers.
I will remind all that we are not limited in the social arena by our physical limitations, but rather by society's lack of expectations, which create invisible challenges of loneliness, despair, and inequality on all levels.

I am invincible, and my platform will show those who may not have to deal with such physical and mental challenges, that we all share mutual goals; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Physical, mental, social, racial, religious, national, or economic barriers should not and need not be created to divide us or deny us these goals and pleasures in life. Someone with a so-called disability, may be the artist who paints with his mouth and makes our environment inspiring, the scientist who cures illnesses, or the individual who may rock your world and give more meaning and excitement to your life then you ever thought possible on a one to one, heart to heart basis.

As a lifetime advocate for people with disabilities, I now have the opportunity for the public to truly know me and what I stand for, as well as the reason why there was a need to create a title such as Ms. Wheelchair Arizona and Ms. Wheelchair America.
