Kelly Woodall

Winner of the Spirit Award
at Little Rock, AR

Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina 2006

My name is Kelly Stuart Woodall and I am the reigning Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina. A native of Raleigh North Carolina, I am the second of three beautiful girls. I was born with quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, but have never had anything except a "normal" life. My parents raised me as they did my older sister and for that I am grateful to them.

In June 2006 I received the Honor of becoming Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina. I am proudly taking over for Ms. Beck and wish her well during this trying time in her life.

I just recently graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in music. I hope to continue my education by attending graduate school in the next few years. I plan to get my Master's, if not my Doctorate in clinical counseling psychology, with which I hope to work with teens and young adults.

While in college I was named one of Who's Who in American Colleges students. I have participated in several programs that benefit my North Carolina community. I sat on a state board for five years as a very active self-advocate.

Since my crowning, I have been dedicated to making the performing arts more accessible to our disabled population, especial our youth. Having been a singer for eleven years and a piano player since age seven, I know and understand the importance of a creative outlet.

For me, my musical abilities have helped develop my sense of self and feeling like I belonged somewhere. I want to devote my time making sure that our disabled youth has opportunities to express themselves.

I truly feel as though my disability is a blessing. I know that each of my challenges makes me stronger and maybe a little wiser. I fully intend on taking what I have learned and sharing with the world to help others.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone at nationals.
